National Day of Encouragement

It's the National Day of Encouragement, today. I've found out from (in)courage. It's a site I like to drop by and share my experiences of the day. They gave away a pack cards of encouragement for free, so we could share encouragement, too.

I've sent one of my cards to a friend that is always there for me and has helped me along in my journey. It seems like now that my kids are bigger and on there own more, her's are taking more time and attention. It's good to send a little encouragement as her life is picking up speed and things are less 'normal' than they use to be.

This August has not been the normal sunny days we hope for in the NW. We've had lots of fog and grey rainy days. Great for the plants, sad for me. Today, though is a sunny clear day.

Tonight there's suppose to be a meteor shower. I have yet, to catch a real meteor shower, something seems to intervene and the opportunity is lost.

I'm hoping to make it past midnight to see them, it's often cloudy when they happen or I have to work early the next day and choose to sleep instead. So, maybe, tonight there will be clear skies and a Perseid showers, too!

Have you done anything this summer you haven't done before?

Take me out... the ball game!

Tonight, was another unexpected event, tickets to see a Mariner Game at Safeco Field!

We won, which is nice, but really it's being with friends, laughing, singing the songs, clapping the rhythms and being submersed in the the moment. There's so much going on at the game, the wave, the hydro races, the cap game and then the real game as well. I'm able to stay connected to the moment and in the moment is where peace and serenity are found even with a stadium full of cheering people.

One thing?

Last night I was fortunate to be invited to an in person interview with the author of Diet for a Hot Planet, Anna Lappe, check out the links to her site. It was an informative talk about organic local foods and strategies for living and eating each day.

The question... 'What is one thing can I do in my life right now to create a small change in the world for food sustainability?' ...accompanied me home.

I've tossed it around a little and have come up with this:
  • Joe Longs Family Farm - a link for grass fed beef in Western Washington (free of antibiotics or hormones)
  • Ordering from Full Circle Farm - something on my to do list, but hasn't been getting done. It's now complete, I will pick up our first box on Wednesday.
Small changes, but maybe they will help start a ripple!

The Kenya trip

Some of the bloggers I follow are off on a Kenya trip. At first I figured lots of bloggers were going, then I realized there are six bloggers and 4 team leaders (also, with blogs). And, I started thinking that maybe, something was trying to get my attention.

So, I've followed all of the different blogs these last few days and made a new friend in Kenya. I'll share more about her later. Here's the links to some of the blogs, I've found a view of Kenya that brings home the smallness of our world and the truth about living together. Stop by and check it out....

Cardboard Testimony

I recently came across this youtube video of cardboard testimonies. And, it made me smile and tears come, too. There was lots to relate to and common issues in my life. And, the question started to surface, what would be my cardboard testimony, today?

The theme that's been resonating lately is that of bondage, slavery, I been held captive by many different things in my life...anger, judgment, addiction, greed, the list goes on. I realize they reflect self, times when selfish, self centered and self seeking take over. So, first side:

Broken & Empty
Slave to self

The flip side:

Healed & Filled
Child of God

What would your cardboard testimony be today?

A New Year...

I've been off the map for awhile. Reflecting back on the year, I realize this blog is a great marker of events and happenings in my day to day life. I'm not a New Year's resolution sort of a person, more of a course correcting or moving toward a goal or dream. I've revisited my goals and dreams for 2009, then, updated them for 2010.

One of this years goals is posting on a more consistent basis, giving an opportunity to share more of my goals and dreams through out the year.

Wishing you and yours a wonderful 2010!
